At Poogan’s Hospitality Group, our story begins the way all good Southern tales should — on a front porch.

It all started in 1976, when a stately home on Queen Street opened its doors as Poogan’s Porch. Named after a neighborhood dog who refused to leave his favorite spot, Poogan’s quickly became a Charleston institution, known for fluffy biscuits, legendary shrimp and grits, and a porch that felt like home.

But we didn’t stop at comfort food classics. In 2015, we expanded with Poogan’s Smokehouse, serving up slow-smoked BBQ with a Lowcountry touch just a few blocks away. As more guests began asking for a place to celebrate life’s big moments, we created Poogan’s Courtyard, a private event space where Southern hospitality meets life’s most memorable occasions.

In 2020, we brought our love of Southern cooking a little farther inland, opening Poogan’s Southern Kitchen in Summerville’s Nexton Square. Five years later, we fired up the smokers and gave the space a new chapter as our second Poogan’s Smokehouse, bringing our signature barbecue, Southern comfort food, and warm hospitality to the growing Nexton community.

With every dish and every handshake, we carry forward the same spirit that Poogan himself embodied: loyal, welcoming, and always ready for company.

Now, five decades later, we’re proud to keep setting the table for the Lowcountry... one porch, one plate, and one story at a time.
